Glutathione is a small, low-molecular-weight, and water-soluble tripeptide. It is formed from three amino acids viz. glutamate, cysteine and glycine. It is a tripeptide antioxidant that helps protect against oxidative damage. Glutathione benefits the skin and has been known to have anti-ageing effects, may reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and increase elasticity.
It is also commonly used for skin lightening and skin brightening purposes. It has a strong sulphuric smell and can be easily incorporated into the water phase of product formulations.
